Capt. Victor Choji from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) pathfinder has called upon the Department of State Security (DSS) to uncover those who are sponsoring the infamous sea pirate network in the region.
The plea came as Capt. Choi handed over five suspected pirates to the DSS who have suspected ties to not only piracy in the area, but also to kidnappings and robberies.
The five suspects were arrested between 31st October and 12th November last year, but are now being passed over to the DSS so that they can uncover further details with regards to their ties in the region and the extent of their terrorising operations.
Upon handing them over, Capt. Choi said “The suspects have availed us with sufficient information of their illegal activities within the maritime space of Rivers State. “We believe that if this is done, then we can nip it in the bud once and for all, thus bringing peace within the maritime space of Rivers State.
He also believes that by working in conjunction with external agencies the waterways will once again be a safe and secure environment for all those who travel on them.
