The British Cruise Ship, SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY collided with a lane marker on June the 24th, shortly after leaving the Meyer Werft shipyard.

The cruise ship had just been delivered to its owner, SAGA Cruises, when it collided with bollards at the Great Sea Lock, in Emden, Germany.

The ship sustained only superficial damages during the incident. Specifically, some abrasions, scratches and a slight dent in the hull.

However, according to the marine police, the dolphin-shaped wooden lane marker has been seriously damaged in the process.

Thankfully, no crew members were injured during the collision.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear at this time, but local authorities have launched an investigation so as to determine the reason behind the collision. They’ve already made plans to interview both the Master of the vessel and the pilot that was in charge of navigating the ship.

The vessel was allowed to sail from the port of Emden on June the 25th and was headed towards Eemshaven.

The cruise ship is supposed to go on its maiden voyage on July the 10th, sailing from Dover, UK.
