Drug traffickers reportedly boarded the ROTTERDAM EXPRESS, a container ship bound for Dominican Republic.

On January 27, Shortly after leaving Cartagena Colombia, the crew reported unauthorised people on bard the container vessel. The Coast Guard and Navy were sent to assist.

According to AIS the ship had reduced speed to assist authorities, as teams of commandos, immigration officials and police boarded.

10 people were detained, one of whom was a convict. During a cargo check, officials then found 185 kilos of pure cocaine, understood to be inside the containers.

Once the drug traffickers had been offloaded, the German container continued to her destination at a reduced speed. At 0430 UTC she was sailing at some 5.5 knots speed, approaching Dominican Republic coast. Understood investigation and probably, search, are still under way.

Colombian authorities reportedly believe those arrested on board are connected to the drugs found.
